STOCKEAS
by Norbert Haley
The Easy-Peasy programme to publish
your pictures on the web.
and the free and dangerous Jpg2Web
What is it? see an EXAMPLE!
STOCKEAS creates the web-page that gives an overview
of your pictures.
DOWNLOAD the ShareWare version
Instructions:
-
How to install STOCKEAS
-
simply UNZIP it into a new directory, such as C:\STOCKPIC (used
here as an example)
-
STOCKEAS uses Nconvert to sharpen, normalise, scale and turn pictures.
It's a fantastic little Win9x commandline programme by Pierre-E
Gougelet, download it here
and put NCONVERT.EXE somewhere in your PATH or into the same directory
where STOCKEAS.EXE is situated (here: C:\STOCKPIC).
-
Use ACDsee to add descriptions
to your Pictures.
-
(TOOLS--OPTIONS--FILING--uncheck OEM (DOS conversion), uncheck Set
hidden attribute--Save Defaults)
-
Edit the description of the pics (CTRL-D) you want to publish (you must
avoid special characters like: '<>$"&).
-
Start the description-text with a exclamation-mark (example: !picture
of my house).
Only those pictures with a ! will be published on the resulting
web-page.
-
Descriptions starting with !HPAN or !VPAN
or !90R or !90L or !180
are treated differently.
-
!HPAN: previews occupy a complete row (for very wide PanoramaPics)
-
!VPAN: previews occupy 1 column over 3 rows.
-
!90R will be rotated 90 degrees to the right, !90L-left
!180-upside-down
-
Sort by description (VIEW--ARRANGE ICONS--by desription)
-
Mark (select) all pictures that have a description starting with an exclamation
mark.
-
If you have too many pictures (>50) in one folder, you need to move some
files to another folder, and create a separate Web-Page with STOCKEAS.
-
To do that, hold down the CTRL-key and click on the pictures you wish to
move. then press ALT-M and Copy the selected pictures to a fresh directory
on your harddrive (EDIT--COPY TO--DestinationDirectory: Enter: C:\temp\test2
)
-
Now edit the pictures: Rotate, adjust contrast etc.. Make them into small
JPGs (600 pix wide) with high compression.
-
Copy the STOCKEAS.EXE programme into the same directory
-
Run (doubleClick) the STOCKEAS.EXE programme. Now you should have a file
STOCKEAS.HTM in your directory. Double-click it to see the result in your
browser.
-
Rename the STOCKEAS.HTM file to a new name.
-
Upload the complete directory to your server. (Use CuteFtp
or WS_FTP for example)

Errors explained:
| ERROR 53 on Line 11 |
The directory you entered did not contain a DESCRIPT.ION file. You
need to first created this file. You can use ACDSee (download)
or QPV (for DOS!). Even 4DOS or FDU create such a file, albeit wtihout
showing you the picture. The DESCRIPT.ION file is nothing but an extra
file in the directory, which contains the filename and a description-text,
one line per file. The DESCRIPT.ION file is often marked as 'hidden', that's
why sometimes you do not see it without using the DOS command dir /a
(show all files!). If you have no idea of DOS, then at least set your explorer
to VIEW -- FOLDER OPTIONS -- show all files, uncheck: hide extensions,
Allow all upper case... |

Limitations of this Programme:
The maximum total number of !exclamation-marked pictures
per directory is 198.
The shareware version only allows 10 pictures per directory.
JPG2WEB
This little programme will create a web-page that contains only a list
of clickable filenames, the names of the files in the current directory.
Dangerous: It renames any and many files (with wildcards)
more of Norbert's pages on this server
