Nivanga's history
The Nivanga was originally called Nivanga I and was built in 1961 in Hong Kong's Wang Poh Shipyards as a training ship for the Gilbert and Ellice Islands (Solomon - Tuvalu) government.

It changed owners to Consort Shipping, Fiji in 1988 or 1989 and since 1994 is owned and operated by Great Barrier Shipping. She is licenced to carry 161 people, has 40.54 m overall length, 353 registered tonnage and 2 Gardiner 8 cyl 8L3B diesel motors (284 kW each ... using about 300 litres of diesel for the Great Barrier trip), attached to a 3UC 3:1 reversing gearbox. She usually has 4 crew.
