Measuring Pollution for under $50        visitor

This page wants to list cheap ways to measure pollution, such as "low above ground" ozone. formaldehyde... SO² ... whatever can be tested with a small and cheap test. Please let me know of any additions you can make, send an email!

Here is one for ozone. It consists of little bits of testing-paper. You can cut then even smaller, to make more tests for the same money. They are stored in a little aluminium container with a screw-lid.

PZN 6348773 (any pharmacy in germany can get it with that number). They cost 30DEM, thats 20US$ or 80¢ per test.

In the leaflet is tells us that:

Ozone is formed by the action of ultraviolet radiation on ambient oxygen. Ozone is a highly toxic gas and has a detectable odour at concentrations of as little as 40-50µg/m³ (1µg = 0.000001g). However after a short period of time we become desensitised and can no longer smell the gas.
It penetrates deep into the respiratory system and irritates the eyes and mucous membranes.
Ozone can cause headaches and weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infection. Constant exposure to ozone may cause chronic respiratory deseases.

The testing kit measures 30-90, 90-150, 150-210, and 210 or more µg/m³. (ABCD)

Outdoors measuring time is 10 minutes, indoors 20 minutes.
The leaflet also lists the european and US guidelines where 180µg/m³ or more is allowed, what a joke! I spare you the details.
