To assist companies improve their environmental performance and increase their market opportunities

Aims

• To inform companies of ways in which they can work within their business to best protect our most valuable assets - this country, its land, its waters and its people.
• To help position New Zealand companies to seize the many opportunities that the pursuit of sustainability offers.
• To give environmentally conscious business an industry voice.
• To promote members in the marketplace

The EBN is a market based, business driven initiative to address the pressing environmental issues of our time. Our key tools are information, marketing and networking.

What is the EBN

A forum for EBN members to discuss key issues and share in the growing number of solutions and opportunities.

A marketing umbrella promoting environmental and socially responsible companies to target markets, local and national government, key organisations and other EBN members.

A source of information on environmental issues, compiled and filtered from a comprehensive range of national and international sources. Designed to keep members up with the latest liabilities, opportunities and technologies relevant to environmental business performance.

Who is the EBN

The EBN is a non-profit co-operative society based in Auckland, representing 15 regional environmental business initiatives throughout New Zealand.

Why the EBN?

It is now patently obvious, and is being increasingly written as law, that all business must apply sustainable management practices to every aspect of their operations. The EBN philosophy is that this is not only necessary and achievable but also an area of significant commercial opportunity.

Who should join

Companies concerned with improving their manufacturing, management and marketing in accordance with environmental principles.

What do members receive

Full members receive a members certificate, and a number of bromides or high-resolution image-files of the member's logo (for use on marketing material).

Every EBN member receives a bi-monthly information pack that includes:

• the EBN Clipping Service
• the EBN newsletter
• the EBN Members Directory
• Discount offers on environmental products and services
• Invitations to EBN workshops and networking functions

We pledge to:

• Conduct an assessment of our environmental impacts
• Write an environmental policy.
• Initiate employee education programmes on environmental issues as they relate to the workplace.
• Minimise our waste-stream incorporating the principles of reduction, reuse and recycling.
• Minimise our energy use, through increased efficiency and preferential use of environmentally friendlier technologies.
• Monitor and minimise all the negative effects our operations, products and services have on soil, air, water and inhabitants of our biosphere.
• Minimise the environmental healthy and safety risks to our employees and the comunities in which we operate.
• Be environmentally accountable identifying problems and communicating honestly and openly with those affected by them.
• Conduct preferential purchasing of environmentally sound products and services, from environmentally responsible companies.
• Write an end of year report on our progress to this pledge.
